Amidst all the chaos, adding to the misery and frustration of BSNL-MTNL employees, the Department of Telecommunication(DoT) is considering the security aspect of complete privatization of BSNL-MTNL.
A senior DoT official told Business Standard that they are evaluating security threats posed by the complete privatization of both the Telcos. DoT official told that even countries like Brazil, UK, and USA have only private sector companies in Telecom. sector- how do they cope with safety and security aspects of the Telecommunication sector.
DoT official told that FinMin wants BSNL-MTNL to be shut down. Officials say if this stand prevails, DoT would recommend downsizing of the area where BSNL-MTNL is providing services like only in space, defense, intelligence, railways and government departments for internal usage.
In a meeting held at PMO on 26th September regarding of revival BSNL-MTNL, which was headed by principal secretary P.K Mishra and group of DoT, Finance Ministry and officials of BSNL and MTNL, where it was decided to review the decision of revival of BSNL-MTNL.
Now, DoT is considering every aspect from privatization to narrowing down the area of services provided by BSNL-MTNL.
While all the employees of BSNL and MTNL are eagerly waiting for the revival package worth Rs 74000 crore which is expected to come before Diwali; now DoT’s this type of response will definitely not please them.
Now only time will tell about the future of BSNL-MTNL.
